The NIU NGT is different from a standard N1S because it was built around two original batteries and its own control system. A direct NGT controller upgrade is therefore not available. The reliable conversion route is to replace the main wiring harness and ECU first, then build a matched controller, battery and motor system.

NIU NGT upgrade sequence

  1. Replace the NGT main harness with the N1S-style harness.
  2. Install the V35NB ECU for remote/Bluetooth unlocking.
  3. Fit and program a compatible Bluetooth controller.
  4. Choose either a practical 72V battery build or a complete 96V performance build.
  5. Optional: upgrade the motor if you want more speed.

Why the NGT needs a harness and ECU conversion

The harness is the scooter’s main wiring network: it connects the ECU, controller, dashboard, battery system, lights, switches and other electrical components. Because the original NGT dual-battery architecture does not accept the same direct controller replacement as an N1S, the N1S-style harness is used to create a compatible base.

Once the N1S-style harness is installed, the original NGT ECU is no longer compatible and must be replaced with the V35NB. The ECU controls important scooter functions, including the dashboard, battery communication and other electrical parts. It also provides Bluetooth/remote unlocking instead of a mechanical key start. The original NIU app will no longer work after the ECU change because NIU ECUs use country-specific SIM connectivity that is not carried over to the replacement ECU.

The NGT uses a dual-battery system for which a direct plug-and-play controller replacement is not available. Replacing the main harness with the N1S-style harness creates the wiring foundation required for a programmable controller conversion.

The ECU manages key scooter functions including the dashboard, battery communication and other electrical parts. It supports Bluetooth/remote unlocking and is supplied with remote keypads, but NIU app service is unavailable because the replacement ECU does not carry the original country-specific SIM connection.

A 72V battery is the practical performance route for most NGT builds. The 70Ah, 100Ah and 120Ah options increase range and voltage, and higher-current BMS options are available for matched motor and controller upgrades.

Choosing between a 72V and 96V NGT build

Setup Best suited to Matched motor direction
72V, up to 120Ah Substantial range and performance without moving to the most extreme architecture. A programmable 72V controller is required. Up to approximately 5,000WP / 10,000W class when the controller, BMS and wiring are specified accordingly.
96V 120Ah Specialist maximum-performance projects only. The pack uses dual 420A / 1050A BMS units for 840A bus / 2100A phase continuous output. Verified compatibility direction: 17,000WP / 34,000W class with a fully matched heavy-performance controller and supporting system.

Recommended installation approach

  1. Decide the intended voltage, range and motor class before buying individual components.
  2. Remove the original NGT dual-battery harness and install the correct N1S-style harness.
  3. Install and pair the V35NB ECU and remote controls.
  4. Install the Bluetooth controller, perform auto-learning and confirm basic scooter functions at low current.
  5. Fit the battery and secure it beneath the foot panel using the appropriate box or fabricated mounting solution.
  6. Install the selected motor and complete the required controller programming.

Can I install only a Bluetooth controller on an original NGT?
No direct NGT controller replacement is available for the original dual-battery architecture. The N1S-style harness and compatible ECU are the foundation of this conversion.

Will the NIU app still work?
No. The replacement V35NB ECU does not retain the original country-specific NIU SIM connection. Remote/Bluetooth unlocking remains available.

Do I need a 96V battery?

Does the no-welding box fit every battery?

Can the original brakes and chassis remain unchanged?
That depends on the intended output. Higher-performance builds require an assessment of brakes, tyres, suspension, frame, swingarm, wiring and cooling.
