NIU Scooter Speed Unlock Bluetooth Controller Guide

Choose the correct speed-unlock controller for NIU NQI, N1S, MQI+, M+, UQI, FQiX and NQiX models. This page replaces older USB-controller information and links to the current Bluetooth-programmable products.

Choose the controller for your NIU model

NIU NQI / N1S / MQI+ / M+ / UQI GT / UQI+

These compatible N-Series, M-Series and U-Series scooters use the main NIU Bluetooth controller with the adapter selected for the exact model.

NIU FQiX 150

The FQiX uses its own dedicated controller and adapter. The recommended standard version is 190A Line / 450A Phase.

View FQiX controller

NIU NQiX 150

The NQiX uses a dedicated controller for its original communication system and larger motor. The recommended standard version is 190A Line / 450A Phase.

Which controller size do you need?

80A Line / 260A Phase

Recommended for a simple speed unlock using the original motor and battery on compatible N-Series, M-Series and U-Series scooters. The original system normally uses up to approximately 45A, so this controller provides sufficient headroom.

190A Line / 450A Phase

Used as the recommended standard controller for FQiX and NQiX, which have a larger original motor and higher current requirements. It is also an upgrade option for compatible 72V builds.

Larger controller models

Choose a larger controller only for a complete upgrade with a larger 72V battery, high-output BMS, suitable wiring and a performance motor. A larger controller alone does not create useful extra power when the battery and motor remain the limiting components.

USB controllers

The older USB-programmable controller is out of stock and discontinued. Use the linked Bluetooth controller pages for the current products and compatibility information.

Estimated speed after a controller upgrade

NIU model Typical estimate Upgrade type
NQI / N1S / N1 70+ km/h Bluetooth controller
MQI+ / M+ 65+ km/h Bluetooth controller
UQI GT 65+ km/h Bluetooth controller
UQI+ / U1 55+ km/h Bluetooth controller
FQiX 150 / NQiX 150 80+ km/h Dedicated Bluetooth controller

These figures are estimates, not guarantees. Battery voltage under load, controller settings, motor limits, rider weight, tyres and riding conditions affect the result.

Calculate the expected speed

NGT, NGTS, NPRO and MQI GT / MGT

Compatible NGT, NGTS and NPRO models can use the NIU NGT / NPRO software service. Compatible MQI GT and MGT models can use the MQI GT / MGT speed software service. These are separate from the controller products listed above.

How to replace a NIU controller

  1. Turn off the scooter and remove or disconnect the battery.
  2. Open the trunk and remove the trunk insert secured by four screws.
  3. Locate the original controller underneath the trunk. Photograph all cable positions before disconnecting anything.
  4. Remove the five coloured motor and battery cables, unplug the controller connectors and remove its four mounting screws.
  5. Install and secure the Bluetooth controller, then reconnect each cable and plug firmly.
  6. Reinstall the trunk after the controller has been tested.

Programming after installation

Turn on the scooter and connect your phone to the controller using the supplied Bluetooth app. Run auto-learn so the controller reads the battery and motor configuration. Enter the recommended current and speed settings for the scooter, then test at low power before increasing performance.

You can adjust line current, maximum speed and acceleration per mode, throttle response, regenerative braking, EBS and settings for a dual battery, 72V battery or replacement motor.
